The Battle for Democracy Continues The Ukrainian people have shown remarkable resilience in the face of the Russian onslaught for over 2 months. After President Zelensky virtually addressed NATO, member nations including the US have stepped up their support for Ukraine’s resistance. You can donate to the Ukrainian people here. Or you can purchase a Ukraine Candle here. All proceeds to to a not-for-profit there.
Signed, Sealed, Delivered Ketanji Brown Jackson has been confirmed to the Supreme Court. It took 232 years after the founding of the Supreme Court to put a black woman on the bench, but who’s counting?
My Sweet Ganja The estate of former Beatle George Harrison has just released a marijuana collection, playfully named “All Things Must Grass,” led by its Signature Edition Pre-Rolled Joints. His Beatle band mate John Lennon would encourage you to “give grass a chance.” (Yes, I hear you groaning … )
Book Recommendations – My learning goal is to get through at least 40 non-fiction books (including audio books) a year. This is where I find the ideas to help my clients grow their business. Below are the ones I read this past month.
Running With Destiny – An Odyssey of Mistakes, Machetes, and Miracles Let me in introduce you to the extraordinary Toby Tanser, who transformed his talent for running into creating an amazing non-profit: Shoe4Africa. Among other things, it sends free shoes to barefoot children in Africa, funds building of schools and also founded the first children’s hospital in Kenya. Toby’s story is too full of twists and turns to be true — he epitomizes persistence and determination in the face of adversity. Need inspiration? You’ll find it here.
Shackelton – A new biography about the famous Antartica explorer Sir Ernest Shacketon. What makes this one so interesting is that it was written by modern-day polar explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes. If you read it, have a wool blanket handy to ward off the chills — what he and his men went through was a literal frozen hell.
CEO Excellence – The Six Mindsets That Distinguish the Best Leaders from the Rest. Did you ever think, “CEO’s get paid a LOT of money — what the heck do they actually do?” Well, three top McKinzie consultants sure did their homework on this one, interviewing 200 top CEO’s to discover what they do that ordinary CEO’s don’t. After reading this my only question now is, “When do they sleep?”
Influence Is Your Superpower – The Science of Winning Hearts, Sparking Change, and Making Good Things Happen We’re all trying to get others to do what we want them to do for us. This one will help you sharpen your influence skills.
Sway – The Irresistible Pull of Irrational Behavior From airline pilots to doctors to NBA teams. this explains how good people (not unlike you and me) make bad decisions.
Dopamine Nation – Finding Balance in the Age of Indulgence You’d be amazed at the wide variety of dopamine highs there are that we all (yes, me too) crave. These are not limited to the usual suspects: alcohol, cocaine, heroin, etc. — it’s even the ‘net.
