Summer’s Over — Time to Go Back to School I hope you had a fun-filled summer doing all the things you love. For me it’s biking along the Chicago’s Lakefront Trail, then jumping in Lake Michigan to cool down. Also, cooking with produce my wife Paula brings home from the Evanston Farmer’s Market — nothing beats Henry’s Farm heirloom tomatoes. And of course, going to Wrigley to cheer the Cubs, see Dead & Company and hear Springsteen. Now it’s back to school — what will you be reading?
Maui Needs Aloha And needs lots of it, as one of the worst wildfires in recent memory has devastated the town of Lahina, with many dead or still missing. As expected the people there intend to rebuild, which will take years. You can help here.
Panic on the South Side Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the supremely underachieving Chicago White Sox, fired the team’s long-time vice president and general manager on the same day, then floated the idea that he would consider moving the team. I’m a Cubs fan but I’d hate to see them go — I’d only have the Cardinals left to trash talk.
The BOSS Wore Me Out Again I’ve been a Bruce Springsteen fan since the first time I saw him play an almost 4-hour show back in 1974. So the day before my birthday I rode my bike down to Wrigley Field to hear him do “only” 3 hours of his hits. My question: He’s a year older than me — how on earth does he do it show after show???
PS — Ukraine Not much is new to report on this slog of a war. Why do I post every month about this war? Because global democracy is at stake — IT MATTERS TO ALL OF US. You can donate to the Ukrainian people here. Or you can purchase a Ukraine Candle here. All proceeds to to a not-for-profit there.
